Shirt Tales

Synopsis

Based on a popular line of greeting cards, The Shirt Tales were a group of adorable animals whose shirts would display words, thoughts, and icons, usually hinting at the current mood of the various "Tales." The shirts also could make them super powerful when its Shirt Tale Time!

In the cartoon, The Shirt Tales, are a group of crime fighting animals who are dedicated to keeping peace and harmony among humans and animals. The group consisted of leader Rick the raccoon, Tyg the tiger, a girl panda named Pammy, Digger the mole, and a monkey called Bogey. In the second season, another female character was added, young Kip the kangaroo.

The group lived in an oak tree in the middle of a public park, under the watchful eye of Superintendent Dinkle. The Shirt Tails helped park visitors through acts of goodwill and their uncanny ability to solve mysteries.

While sleuthing, the gang used the Shirt Tales’ Super-Sonic Transporter (STSST), which not only helped them get around quickly, but also sported a laserlike beam that functioned as a lasso or a ladder. The Tales also owned wristwatches that allowed them to communicate with one another, sometimes holographically.

After two years on NBC, the show moved to CBS for its final Saturday morning season, which consisted entirely of repeats.

Characters

Rick

Take one part fast-talker, one part bold go-getter, and you'll have Rick Raccoon, the courageous, quick-thinking leader of the Shirt Tales. As leaders come and go, few can compare to this guy. Besides being an all-around nice guy, Rick is a heavy music fan, is able to keep his cool in otherwise tense situations; and when his team is in a fix, Rick always comes up with some idea to unfix it. He is the most self-confidant member of the team, which makes him bold and a little cocky as well. When things get tough, count on Rick's quick-thinking and headstrong attitude to lead the Shirt Tales in and out of new mysteries, adventures, and dangers.

Pammy

Sweet inside and out, Pammy Panda is the all around good girl. She is very multi-talented making her vital to the gang. She's proved herself to be good at acrobatic, robotics, and recently martial arts. She's usually sugar n' spice and all that, but she can be tough when she wants to, especially when she's on the job.

Tyg

Priding himself on being the strongest tiger in the world, Tyg Tiger is the only Shirt Tale member who could put Hercules to shame. Not only is he strong, but he is so fast that not even his stripes can keep up with him. He is totally tough and ready for a good fight, but even Tyg has been known to wimp out when confronted with something scary. When the other Shirt Tales need some more muscle, they'll always have Tyg, the strongest tiger in the world.

Digger

"Slow, steady, and careful," is the motto of the Shirt Tales' favorite mole, Digger Mole. He isn't the bravest member of the team, nor does he have a lot of self-esteem, but he makes up for it by just being there. Due to his high sensitivity, Digger needs constant encouragement from his friends. Digger may wimp out sometimes, but never when other Shirt Tales or people are in danger.

Kip

The energy and pep of the gang comes from Kip Kangaroo, the youngest, smallest, and newest member of the Shirt Tales. She gets a real kick out of being a Shirt Tale, if you know what I mean. Highly energetic and spunky, Kip will leap into any danger. Unfortunatly, her energy and optimistic attitude tends to make her leap before she looks. But no matter how much trouble she may get herself or the others into, Kip will always offer some extra team spirit to the Shirt Tales.

Bogey

Perhaps the most lovable member of the Shirt Tales has to be Bogey Orangutan, the smooth talkin Humphery Bogart wannabe. Bogey always has pet names for people and is a very amiable Shirt Tale. He's a real movie fan, and nobody can say that he's a picky eater. Bogey tries to remain cool and confident like in the movies, but like Tyg, he sometimes loses his trademark cool.

Mr. Dinkel

Although he mainly serves as the comic relief, Mr. Dinkel fills a few other roles in the lives of the Shirt Tales. Not only is he the one that takes care of them, but he is also their "boss" and best human friend. Mr. Dinkel is the clumsy park janitor who runs the park as if it was an army camp, which usually wears down our heroes. Mr. Dinkel may act a liitle grumpy around them, but he is ready to do anything for the Shirt Tales.
